Raintree Studio and Gallery Greg Swainson Watercolour Artist and Instructor

Bio

In order to reflect, represent and paint what surrounds us, one needs to see it, smell it, touch it and walk in it. My love of gardening and the prairie and coastal landscapes, along with mother natures' presentation of light and shadow allows me to imagine, create and paint to my heart's desire. Painting allows me to fulfill an inner peace, representing all that surrounds me through the media of watercolour. Watercolours give me the fluid freedom to move colour, create textures, develop shapes, and present a derivative of natures' best."

I was born in Central Alberta. I obtained a Visual Communications Degree from the Alberta College of Art, Calgary, a BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design, Calgary, and a BEd from the University of Alberta, Edmonton.

I worked as a Commercial Artist under the tutelage of renowned Canadian artist Bill Perehudoff, before becoming a Commercial Art Instructor at the Senior High School level.

I am known for my vivid watercolors depicting landscapes, florals, and unique compositions encompassing a wide variety of subjects. My career was in the education field, having taught art in public high schools, adult education, university, private classes and workshops throughout Alberta and British Columbia. My work is exhibited in local galleries (Alberta and BC) in addition to numerous private collections, government and corporate offices. I was the recipient of the award for "Best Work on Paper or Under Glass at the Sidney Fine Art Show 2007."

My wife Joan and I moved to the beautiful BC Coast in July 2005 and now live in Qualicum Beach where I currently paint, teach monthly watercolor classes and workshops and exhibit my work as well as garden to my hearts delight. Life is Good!
